Nordic Games NA has a reputation for character-driven entertainment, and this year the company nails it with a collection of ambitious role-playing games.
The drama begins with The Guild 3. Aspiring dynasty-founders craft, trade, and scheme their way to success, while contending with willful computer-controlled opponents and random global events. Want to up the unpredictability ante? Jump into the 16-player online multiplayer mode. The dynasty-building starts for PC players in late 2016.
Also coming to the PC in 2016 is RPG/real-time strategy hybrid SpellForce 3. The 30-hour, high-fantasy single-player campaign lets players build an army, customize heroes, and wage war—then join forces, or take on other players in the game's high-powered multiplayer mode.
The role-playing continues with open world action-RPG ELEX, from the creators of the acclaimed Gothic series. The fight between man and machine begins some time late 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC players.
Wrapping things up is retro-inspired dungeon crawler Battle Chasers: Nightwar. Based on the Battle Chasers comic book series, the game features party combat, crafting, randomly generated dungeons, and turn-based combat. The comic-turned-RPG will be available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Mac at the end of 2016.
Nordic Games is playing to its strengths, and that means two great things: its connection with role-playing fans, and its commitment to character-driven fun.
