Take This AFK Room at E3 Offers a Break From the Frenzy

Take This was founded in 2013 by video game journalists Russ Pitts and Susan Arendt, with psychologist Dr. Mark Kline. The non-profit organization was created to help educate the video game community about mental health issues, reduce the stigma of mental illness, and advocate for those who suffer from these issues. The organization provides information on treatment options and resources to help find aid. It offers loved ones information about intervention, support, and educational resources. And it educates companies about offering aid to those with mental health concerns.

At E3 2016, the Take This AFK Room is in Meeting Room 407—on the second level Concourse, between South and West Halls. Staffed with volunteers trained by Take This, the AFK Room is a quiet, safe space for anyone who feels anxious, overwhelmed or over-stimulated by the bustle of the show floor. It also offers opportunities for attendees to discuss mental health issues—their own or others’—with Take This clinicians and to gather information and resources.
